Building Process
Kevin had a lot of experience building airplanes, helicopters and various types of remote control vehicles. These were the steps that we took for the building process:
1. Research: During our research process we looked at many different types of submarines and how they worked. We tried to gather what worked best for the different submarines and what did not work so we could avoid there mistakes and use what worked for them. 2. Gathering A List of Parts And Buying Them: We had to find many different parts for our project. Kevin went to Orchard Supply Hardware and bought various kinds of plastic piping. connectors and plugs which would water tight and would not leak when underwater. 3. Blueprints: Kevin drew up the blueprints, and a wiring diagram. He then decided what the dimensions would be. Once he worked out the dimensions, he created our final blueprint design which is what we based our project off of. 4. Testing: It is very important to test your project in case their are any faulty problems that you would need to fix. During our field trip to Palisades High School we had an unfortunate event where our submarine overheated. The submarine overheated and caught on fire because the propeller was too large and put too much stress on the motor and speed controller. Sadly, Will had to jump in after it when it caught on fire and he had to pull it out. When we opened the submarine, we discovered that the speed controller had overheated, and when water leaked in through the fin holes, caught fire. |
